Antique Aquamarine and Diamond Necklace, circa 1900

This exquisite antique necklace dates to around 1900 and beautifully reflects the refined elegance of the late Victorian period, at the threshold of the Edwardian era.

At its centre sits a delicately faceted pear-shaped aquamarine of approximately 2.60 carats, framed by shimmering rose cut diamonds set in finely worked silver. Suspended beneath, a second aquamarine drop of approximately 1.11 carats introduces a graceful sense of movement and lightness.

What makes this piece particularly captivating is its subtle architectural quality. The geometric openwork elements display a quiet symmetry reminiscent of neoclassical design, echoing the timeless balance and structure found in ancient Greek ornament. These more structured lines are softened by delicate floral nuances and fine millegrain detailing, creating a harmonious interplay between strength and delicacy.

Crafted in a refined combination of silver and 18ct gold, the necklace embodies the transitional character of its time — where the richness of Victorian jewellery gently gives way to the airy elegance of the Edwardian style.

A rare and beautifully composed jewel, both historically meaningful and effortlessly wearable.
